Most couples with children dream about getting away on their own for a few days and occasionally it actually happens! When the chance arises, many of them are caught in the headlights of freedom and don’t know what to do to make the best of it. If you’re heading to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland for a romantic weekend, here are some ideas for making it one to remember.
One thing the Sunshine Coast, and particularly the Hinterland region, is known for is boutique hotels and cottage complexes that offer well-stocked, private and intimate accommodation for couples of all ages. Proximity to the towns of Maleny and Montville is a must, as there’s lots to do there, but a bit of seclusion doesn’t go amiss if you’re looking to reconnect with your significant other.
You won’t find many franchise eateries in the Hinterland, which is usually a great relief. Maleny in particular has a wealth of unique restaurants, cafes, farm shops and bistros, all offering warm, friendly service and relaxing atmospheres. Try The Tamarind, Monicas, and The Terrace in particular.
One of the benefits of a childfree weekend is quiet contemplation and where better to do this than at an art gallery. Maleny and Montville have several galleries, with artists-in-residence. Visit Art on Cairncross, Peace of Green Gallery or join the Art Gallery Trail that’s held every May and winds through Maleny, Monville, Cairncross, Kenilworth and Eumundi. If you fancy trying your own hand at some art, there are lots of pottery, painting and photography workshops to take part in and enjoy.
Try a wine tour
The Flame Hill Vineyard in Montville has tasting sessions as well as the option to enjoy a good wine with some modern Australian food at its restaurant.
