The Sunshine Coast Hinterland, and especially the towns of Maleny and Montville, are well-known for the wealth of artistic and creative talent. There’s something about the stunning scenery and the slower pace of life here that inspires artists and craftspeople of all stripes. This coming together of artistry has led to a proliferation of art galleries and workshops, peopled by nationally and internationally-renowned artists. Here are just a few of the best places to head to if you’re visiting Maleny Montville.
The Peace of Green Gallery
This friendly gallery is located at 38, Maple St, Maleny, QLD 4555. It’s open seven days a week and every day sees a different local artist behind the counter, ready to greet and guide you through the works on display.
The gallery hosts a wide range of mediums – silk, woodwork, paintings, hand-blown glass and even leather, so don’t be shy about dropping in!
Maleny Magic Patchwork & Quilts
Everyone’s all about the patchwork these days, so if you fancy getting your needle-on, head along to 924 Maleny-Montville Rd, QLD 4552. This shop has everything you’ll need to stock up on your sewing equipment, including great quality Japanese fabrics and readymade quilts.
The shop is open from 9.30am to 4.00pm, seven days a week (except for public holidays) and also offers workshops and a warm welcome to large groups.
Fun in the Mudd
Situated right in the heart of Maleny, this workshop and gallery offers pottery classes that enable students to try a range of techniques before settling on their own individual style. Owner Cathy Lawley, an award-winning potter and sculptor, teaches traditional and modern methods, using high quality materials; she keeps the classes small (10 people at most) so that she can give everyone individual attention.
Each workshop includes materials, tools and glazing, as well as tea, coffee and other refreshments.
