The highlight of the Maleny social calendar, this popular event is in its 80th year in 2017, so it promises to be an extra special show!
This year the event is being held on June 2 and June 3 (from 8.00am on June 2 to 11.30pm on June 3); the show is located at 13 Maleny-Stanley River Road, Maleny (Route 23), just one kilometre from the town centre.
What to expect at the show
The Maleny Agricultural Show offers everything you’d expect and so much more! There’s all the usual prize farm animal shows, including rare poultry breeds, as well as beef cows, horses and show jumping displays.
Then there are craft contests like needlework, cooking, woodwork – with a woodchop workshop for anyone wanting to sharpen up their axe skills. People of all ages are welcome to enter into the contests, from whip-cracking to dog-jumping. Junior chefs have their own sections – with cash prizes for the best cakes, scones and other baked goods.
Edifying and fun – what’s not to love?
If you’re looking to come away from the show with some new knowledge or skills, then you won’t be let down. There are talks, workshops and demonstrations on many aspects of rural and farm life, as well as the opportunity to try some out. Ever milked a cow? No? Here’s your chance!
Then, there’s good old fashioned fun like fireworks, motorcycle stunt teams and sheepdog trials to watch, as well as some amazing food – local produce will abound – and coffee to refuel you for the next tug-of-war or chopping spree.
Speaking of sprees…
The Maleny Agricultural Show also offers the chance to win $1,500 in shopping spree vouchers. There are two draws – one per day at 5.00pm – so if you want to enter, fill in a form at the Pavillion (you’ll get one with each paid-for admission) and make sure you’re on the grounds when the draw is called.
