If you’re thinking of visiting Maleny – maybe a relative is planning an amazing Sunshine Coast wedding and you’re going to be staying at the Blue Summit Cottages for a few days – you’ll be wondering what else there is to do. After all, it’s a small town and you’re used to the big city, right?
Well, there’s loads to do – there’s walks, wine tasting, bowls, Irish music, art and craft workshops, art galleries and wildlife trails, as well as world-class world cuisine to try out. Then, there’s the markets. Oh yes, the markets!
Maleny is an artisan town – everyone makes something here. Be it paintings, handbags, glasswork, furniture or soaps, you can find it in a market in Maleny. Of course they’re not all open at once, but you’ll almost certainly be in town for at least one if you’re here for a few days.
Sundays is Maleny Art, Craft and Collectibles Market
This is a big favourite with people all over the Hinterland. It’s held from 8.00am to 2.00pm at the RSL Hall, Bunya St. You’ll get arts, crafts and collectibles, yes, but you’ll also be able to pick up organic produce and cooked food, as well as soaps, candles, books and maybe even a hot stone massage.
It’s also the Maleny Handicraft Market
Held at the Community Hall at 23 Maple St, this market runs from 8.00am to 2.00pm and showcases the work of many of the town’s artists and creative types.
The Montville Local Produce Market
This is held on the second Saturday of every month, between 7.00am and 12.00pm at the nearby (just 15km away) town of Montville in the Village Hall. If you can’t get to the markets in Maleny, you’ll find the neighbours just as accommodating and interesting. Head here for home-grown fruit and vegetables, as well as fair-trade coffee and gardening equipment – as well as gardening advice if you’re lucky.
